The Lin(d)field One Name Group exists to promote research into the surnames Lindfield, Linfield and other variants and to publish the genealogies of these families. It was formed in 1992, at which time we wrote to as many people as possible around the world who had the surnames Linfield or Lindfield. We also sent a copy of the first volume of our journal Longshot. Since then, the Group has grown and it now has members world-wide.

Our research over the years has revealed connections with other similar names such as Linkfield, Lingfield and Linville, and we are trying to confirm those connections using documentary evidence. We have strong indications from DNA testing that the main lines are all derived from a common ancestor.

Until 2013 we published a printed journal, Longshot (ISSN 0966-4467), twice yearly.  In order to make material available more widely, all publication is now by way of this web site, although copies of the earlier printed journals are available at a modest cost.
